Stock Market

NEW DELHI: Equity, currency, commodity and bond markets is closed today for trading on Friday, April 10, on account of Good Friday.

The bourses will reopen for trading on April 13, Monday. Benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex snapped a seven-week losing streak, jumping about 13 per cent in three sessions to Thursday.

The indices recorded their best week since May 2009 and closed at three-week highs.

Monday was a trading holiday on account of Mahavir Jayanti. “The consistent buying in FMCG and pharma pack has triggered rebound from the lower levels but it could be a temporary relief rally as the worries over the economic impact of the pandemic would continue to weigh on investor sentiments,” said Ajit Mishra, VP - Research, Religare Broking. Major world markets will also be closed on Friday. Asian shares rose on hopes that the Covid-19 pandemic is nearing a peak and that governments would roll out more stimulus measures to support their economies, while expectations of a deal to cut oil production bolstered crude prices. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.9 per cent, following a strong Wall Street close.

Shares in China, where the novel coronavirus first emerged late last year, rose 0.42 per cent.

Australian shares were up 2.54 per cent.
